It's more than slightly ironic to forward a discussion that praises Switzerland as the only country where the sovereigns have managed to maintain control of their "government" creature as of today. About a third of the country in under de facto martial law, with people are free to go everywhere they want -- provided it's the "good" direction. Border post have been closed, armed bands control the roads, people are stopped and detained without reasonable cause. The highway bandits are convinced to belong to the forces acting to "preserve public order" -- but in fact and in right their are servants of violent powers that believe themselves beyond the reach of law. Judge for yourself: masked men stop sovereign individuals by brandishing their weapons, interrogate them without motive, and refuse them passage unless they comply with unknown rules. It has been reported that these self-declared "policemen" have lied to the people under interrogation -- further showing their true nature.
The reason put forwards for this internal occupation is to stop potential protestors from reaching the township of Davos, where a "World Economic Forum" is apparently ongoing. I have no reason to look kindly upon those protestors: most of them are mushy- brained collectivists; many of them, any other day, are privileged partners of "governments" in the search for ever more power. But this breakdown of the state of law, to favor the playground of a few priviledged persons, is a casebook example of the consequences for the government action: for the benefit of a couple of hundred persons, invoking a menacing behaviour of a few hundreds other persons, thousands upon thousands of women and man are coerced out of the exercise of their full rights. Army units have been called to serve as peacekeepers, without any parliamentary debate. And sovereigns across the country will pay for this unlawful violence by bleeding more of their money for "taxes".
Is it a coincidence that this martial law measures fall upon Switzerland in a year in which a socialist councillor has assumed the president's office? It probably is -- just as it is probable that the good swiss people will have forgotten the episode by the next elections, thanks to the appropriate bromides that within a few days even the most critical mainstream media will take upon themselves to spread.
"Against stupidity, the gods themselves are powerless." And the maintenance of stupidity has become one of the largest worldwide industries -- and in Switzerland too, dear friends from the western provinces. "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." But vigilance is such a bother, isnt' it? And, after all, all is done for the good of the children...
"When Hitler attacked the Jews I was not a Jew, therefore I was not concerned. And when Hitler attacked the Catholics, I was not a Catholic, and therefore, I was not concerned. And when Hitler attacked the unions and the industrialists, I was not a member of the unions and I was not concerned. Then Hitler attacked me and the Protestant church - and there was nobody left to be concerned." Pastor Martin Niemöller (Congressional Record, 14, October 1968, page 31636)
